Alternative methods of irrigation

HDP foundation, with financing from the Armenian branch of the International charitable organization ”World Vision”, held a number of seminars from September 16 to October 30, 2008. The seminars were about the application of alternative methods of irrigation in Talin region for 20 communities with a total of 600 farmers.

A fundamental goal of the course was to teach farmers new higher-yielding technologies for growing vegetables and to demonstrate how they differed from traditional methods.. 22 people participated from Talin region and 29 people from Stepanavan and Alaverdi communities involved in Local Development Projects.

Irrigation team

During part one of the course, the HDP work team presented alternative methods of irrigation. Six important steps for increasing yield were taught. Each participant received written materials with instructions for applying the components of the new method.

Once the coursework was completed, two visits were organized in Qarakert (Armavir region) and Karin (region of Aragatsotn) communities, During the second part of the course, information and handouts described the new methods of irrigation and their unique applications.

After classroom sessions were completed, visits were organized in Qarakert (Armavir region) and Karin (region Aragatsotn) communities.

In Qarakert, village the participants were shown high yielding vegetable plots and received answers to their questions. In Karin, three drip irrigation methods were presented: gray, with pipettes and rainy.
